Felix Bender

I am a Lecturer in Politics at Northumbria University in Newcastle, with a focus on researching and teaching Political Theory. Prior to joining Northumbria University, I have held Postdoctoral positions at RIPPLE (Research in Political Philosophy and Ethics Leuven) at the KU Leuven, and at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity. I have also held various visiting positions at the University of Oxford (Refugee Studies Centre), the University of Amsterdam (Department of Philosophy), and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars (History and Public Policy) in Washington DC. I received my PhD in Political Theory from Central European University (CEU) in 2020, while it was still in Budapest.

My work focuses mainly on the political philosophy and ethics on migration and specifically on refugeehood, and I am interested in a great variety of topics in political philosophy and social theory such as democratic theory, the ideal and non-ideal theory debate, critical and systems theory. My work has been published in Citizenship Studies, Ethics & International Affairs, Organization, Philosophy & Social Criticism, the Critical Review of International Social and Political Philosophy (CRISPP), the Journal of Moral Philosophy, the Australasian Philosophical Review, and Ethical Perspectives.
